Hesat2030 welcomes the commitment of G7 Agriculture Ministers to ‘make agriculture and food systems more productive, resilient and sustainable, to improve food security and nutrition.’
These are noble goals that Hesat2030 strives to achieve.
Three areas in the G7 Agriculture Ministers Communiqué are particularly relevant to us:
Increasing resilience to climate change,
Developing data, metrics and analysis to inform decision-making, and
Focusing on women's empowerment and gender equality.
Hesat2030 offers evidence and recommendations that integrate multiple outcomes that focus on climate change, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, women's empowerment, social inclusion and emphasize economic solutions that help farmers and small businesses. These efforts complement and align with existing reports developed by the FAO such Achieving SDG 2 without breaching the 1.5 °C threshold: A global roadmap and the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2024
Hesat2030 integrates science and data with policy. We identify the most effective and efficient policies through economic models and evidence reviews, including how much these policies will cost, what they mean in practice, and how they affect the wider economy, from the household to global markets. Such work is underway as part of Avanzar2030, focusing on Latin America, and the Zero Hunger Coalition, focusing on Africa and southeast Asia.
With the Juno Evidence Alliance, Hesat2030 uses evidence synthesis to harness the latest technologies to scan, organize and analyze millions of agricultural research papers and determine which policy interventions have the greatest evidentiary support.
Current data on aid spending must also be tracked and analyzed to better understand who is spending what and where. Policy makers need tools for an accurate, timely and clear snapshot of how their resources are being used at a country, program or project level. For this reason, Hesat2030 is building an interactive platform to analyze, monitor, and track official development assistance (ODA) for food security and nutrition.
Hesat2030 looks forward to continued collaboration with G7 governments and ensuring that they have the resources and tools necessary to make informed and scientifically-based decisions. Together, we can reach our goal to end hunger in a way that protects the climate, improves nutrition, empowers women and advances the well-being and livelihoods of the poorest and most vulnerable communities.
